Water slides in water parks and entertainment complexes require a very smooth, low-friction surface to achieve optimal sliding speed while also being resistant to chlorine, UV radiation, and impact from continuous use. These slides are made of FRP with a special marine-grade gelcoat. The manufacturing process involves hand lay-up using isophthalic polyester resin or vinyl ester resin, followed by final sanding and polishing.
The gelcoat contains UV stabilizers and antibacterial additives. The gelcoat layer is approximately 0.5 mm thick, followed by several layers of resin and fiberglass (typically 4 to 6 layers). An FRP water slide weighs about 80% less than its metal counterpart and is completely leak-proof due to the absence of seams and welds.
