Natural marble is expensive, brittle, and heavy. Artificial marble (Engineered Marble) is made by combining approximately 70-75% mineral filler (such as marble powder or aluminum trihydrate) with 25-30% polyester or epoxy resin, along with color pigments. The process of mixing in a vacuum mixer, pouring into molds, and curing at a controlled temperature produces a bubble-free, high-density product.
Advantages of this material include the ability to be molded into complex shapes (such as cabinets with curved edges), weight approximately 50% less than natural stone, resistance to stains from food items (tomato paste, turmeric), and repairability of scratches with sandpaper and polishing.
