Prefabricated residential building

Prefabricated residential buildings (container homes, lightweight villas, backyard studios) are gaining increasing attention due to their fast installation and reduction of construction waste. The wall and roof panels of these structures are typically sandwich panels with a core of polyurethane or polyisocyanurate (PIR) foam and an outer skin of FRP (made with polyester resin and fiberglass). The production process of these panels, either continuous or discontinuous, ensures a strong bond between the layers.

In terms of thermal performance, these panels have a very low heat transfer coefficient (U-value of approximately 0.2 to 0.3 W/m²K), which reduces heating and cooling energy consumption by up to 50%. Additionally, their light weight (about 50 kg/m²) eliminates the need for a heavy foundation.
