Corian is a combination of concrete with polymer materials, mineral pigments, additives, stabilizers, and natural and mineral lightweight aggregates. Corian Solid Surface is the name of a product first manufactured by an American company. Corian is an engineered material similar to quartz, obtained from a combination of acrylic polymers and the minerals bauxite, aluminum trihydrate, and various pigments. Corian artificial stone has the ability to transmit light, allowing for the use of lighting equipment behind it. It is thermoplastic (capable of being shaped with heat) and is resistant to sulfuric acid.
By altering certain raw materials, it is possible to produce an artificial stone similar to Corian, with the difference that the final product will be thermosetting. Corian artificial stone is used as open stone for cabinets, kitchen sinks, bathroom vanities, and countertops or reception desks.
**Features and advantages of Corian artificial stone:**
* Ability to join pieces without visible seams (by sanding and polishing the seam surface)
* Non-porous
* Repairable from scratches
* Stain-resistant
* Variety of designs and colors
One of the best resins available in the Iranian market for making Corian stone is Kimiya 714 orthophthalic unsaturated polyester resin, produced by Alborz Organic Materials Engineering Company. Today, this resin is used as the main polymeric material in most Corian and artificial stone workshops. The resin’s clarity, affordability, accessibility, low exothermic reaction, and high mechanical strength within Corian and artificial stone increasingly drive its use in the Iranian market every day.
