What is Araldite?

Araldite is a registered trademark of Huntsman Advanced Materials (formerly part of Ciba-Geigy), referring to a wide range of epoxy, acrylic, and polyurethane engineering and structural adhesives.

The Swiss manufacturer first introduced DIY Araldite adhesive products in 1946. The first batch of Araldite epoxy resins, for which the brand is best known, was made in Duxford, England, in 1950.

Araldite adhesive is created by the interaction of an epoxy resin with a hardener. Mixing the epoxy resin and hardener together initiates a chemical reaction that generates heat – an exothermic reaction. It is claimed that after curing, the bond is impervious to boiling water and all common organic solvents.
